Promotion of international peace and security Article 51

  • The Article 51 of in the Indian Constitution state that, The state shall endeavour to –
  • a) Promote international peace and security
  • b) Maintain just and honorable relations between nations
  • (c) Foster respect for international law and treaty obligations in the dealings of organized peoples with one another.
  • (d) Encourage settlement of international disputes by arbitration.

Promote international peace and security

India follow the principle of Vasudhaiva kutumbakam (वसुधैव कुटुम्बकम्) means The World is One Family.

  • To develop friendly relations among nations based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples,
  • And to take other appropriate measures to strengthen universal peace.

Maintain just and honorable relations between nations

The Constitution sub section b of Article 51 talks about, that to Maintain just and honorable relations between nations, means the country has to build and promote friendly relationship between there neighborhood nations which just and peace of their people and of the neighborhood nations.

Foster respect for international law and treaty obligations in the dealings of organized peoples with one another

Article 51(c) of the Constitution talk about Foster respect for international law and treaty obligations in the dealings of organized peoples with one another.

Means, support and respect to international law which india has its signatory or signed. The state shall promote and follow the obligations of international treaties dealing of organised people with one another.

It has been held that International covenant on civil and political right is not binding on the municipal courts until the Municipal Law is changed to accommodate the covenant through India is a signatory to the covenant.

And article 51 (C) of the Constitution obligate the state to Foster respect of international law and Treaty obligation in dealing of organised people with one another.

The Article 51(d) of the Constitution talk about Encourage settlement of international disputes by arbitration.

The country shall, encourage the arbitration Settlement, means peacebuilding conversation between the nation or individual of any dispute arises and resolve any international dispute between the nation or individual through table talk or intermediary.
